Eliana: Littlest Hero - Albuquerque Child Photograper

You may (or may not) have noticed, but I'm SO proud and excited to finally announce it formally here: I recently signed on to donate my time to a little organization called Inspiration Through Art, formerly known as the Littlest Heroes Project. They organize and coordinate for many, many photographers in the US to donate sessions and images to families that qualify - families that have children that are battling serious life-long illnesses or disabilities.

Between the medical expenses, time spent going back and forth to doctor appointments (often times out of state), shuttling their other kiddos around, work, school, family life and the emotional aspects, you can image it is not easy in any way to take time out to book a family photography session. This is where someone like me comes in - I get matched with a qualified family, and voila! Fun times happen!

So needless to say, I'm THRILLED to be a part and even more thrilled and excited to introduce my very first Littlest Hero! Meet Eliana!

She is spunky, sweet, silly, funny and so, so so outgoing. She is the life of this party...already, at age 7! She's got pulmonary hypertension - In the images below, you'll see a rockin' purse she sports - that holds her pump...that pumps vital medicine into her body 24 hours a day. She's got TONS of these purses I hear - I only got to see this cute little pink one. Eliana is a trooper - from the time I spent with them, I can tell she is a fighter. She's been through a lot more in her 7 years than many of us going through in our lifetimes. Rumor has it she's a trouble makin' middle child ;) and loves spending time with her siblings and dancing around.

I am so so glad Eliana is my first Hero... and loved getting the opportunity to meet her, her sister, brother, mom and dad. This family was sweet and friendly - and a perfect combo. They will hold a special spot with me.

Wyatt & Mason - Albuquerque Children's Photographer

I remember how fast 6 months with my OWN kiddo flew by so, so fast. Even with the sleepless nights, naps during the day, teething, rolling, all those HUGE milestones that pass by too - it's such an amazingly exciting and fun time. Imagine my joy when I got to see Wyatt and Mason, again, at this fabulous age? And you know what? Six months goes SO much faster when it's not your kid and you aren't the one sleep deprived!

I'm positive you'll recognize them from their newborn session. They were JUST as easy going, sweet, and sleepy too! This session ended better for me - I was able to head home in my own shirt sans baby pee on myself and blankets :)

Needless to say, the boys were happy to see me and show off some of their new skills! I'm overjoyed and honored to be chosen to capture these precious moments of their childhoods. I adore this family - they can razz me all day long about the patterned socks I wear to their house and I've got no qualms rearranging their furniture or playing tug with their dogs. It's love I tell you, LOVE!

Enjoy seeing these sweet boys again!

Tyler - Albuquerque NM Childrens Photographer

A little man at 18 months... Need I say more? :) Busy, silly, inquisitive, non-stop, funny and oh-so-sweet. And this little guy is like apple-pie-cinnamon-and-sugar sweet.

We hit downtown Albuquerque on an early overcast morning and finished up in the Bosque...one of my all time favorite places to shoot (and spend some good quality time with my kiddo too). One of my favorite things to do on a session with kiddos this age is let them explore and wander - play some games, sing some songs and just explore. It's fun to see things through a kiddo's eyes again and get down and dirty with them.

We played for a good 2 hours and rounded out our visit with me carrying him back to the car. Perfect ending to a perfect session.

Thanks Jen and Tyler for being up for anything and going along with my wild urban ideas! Until our next session...

Sophia (Round 2) - Albuquerque Child Photographer

Remember my post about my gorgeous one year old Goddaughter Sophia from just a few days ago? Ready for round two?!?

I am so beyond thrilled to finally be able to show these! One day, with Mama and Dada both off for a good chunk of time and my own kiddo napping, my camera and I had some private time with Sophia. With just us, she HAMMED it up for the camera...smiling, posing, giving me shy little glances, giggling, and at the end? She got REALLY curious and brave :) Little did I know, a mere 2 days later she would be shy and distracted during her birthday photo session.

I'm hoping I was able to catch a small piece of the "real" Sophia for Mama and Dada. My kiddo is as shy as they come... and knowing that, I can never expect to have any pictures of her (from another photographer) that REALLY, really, really capture *her*.

My big goal when photographing anyone (but little ones especially) is to be able to truly capture them - their quirks, silly looks, little habits. I want to make sure those things peek through these moments in time... and can be captured for many years where you can look back and see those things; feel those things. Little ones grow so fast, and some of the sweet, silly and unique things go away so fast - faster than we want at times. It's important to capture what we can :)

This last one makes me giggle. I love seeing that inquisitive look on her face, her little tooth peeking out. Right after this - she grabbed my lens and then moved along to squish some ants.

90 Days of Summer - Albuquerque, NM Photographer

For years we've wanted to garden. Well, garden something more than strawberries which we've done before and the porcupine that visited us enjoyed eating the entire plants.

So - this year, we're gardening. We built a few raised planting beds along the west side of our home, and got a little planting-happy a few months back. Spring forward a few months - a few months of Albuquerque sun and rain from the monsoon season and I think we've overplanted. The chives are being smothered by the crookneck squash and the watermelon and cantelope vines are now intertwined. Our tomato plants are over 3 feet tall and of course, the strawberries have only flowers. Figures, right?

Recently we were able to "harvest" our latest treats. They're STILL in the windowsill and I promise you, this is a shot from last week. Possibly even 2 weeks ago. I am NOT the tomato eater of the house...I'm a texture kinda gal, and this texture? Not my thing. So I fully expect this little pile to grow over the remainder of the summer! :)

Wondering where my 90 Days of Summer personal project disappeared to? Yeah, me too!

I have been pulling out my camera to shoot, but for lack of time, they rarely get processed or posted for sharing. Nature of the beast of photography :)

So, with me having no clue what day of the ninety it is, here is one from yesterday.

Living in Albuquerque, home of the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta, you'd think we would get our fill of hot air balloons in the 8 day period the Fiesta is rocking our town. Little do you know, we have balloons all.the.time. At the spot my house sits, we're below one of the prime sailing paths for the balloons and many, many mornings I wake up to the sky scattered with brightly colored, sometimes funny shaped, so-close-you-can-hear-them hot air balloons. I love it. Does my dog? Not so much!

Even growing up here, seeing the balloons year round and battling the tourists yearly during the International Balloon Fiesta, I still love 'em. I still love turning a corner and seeing them landing in a parking lot or empty field, I love waking in the morning and seeing 15 over my house - close enough we can shout "Hello!" and wave to the pilot and passengers. It's just home.

Sophia - Albuquerque, NM Child Photography

Ready for a shocking moment? My goddaughter, whom you will remember from here, is now one! Last month I headed up to see her celebrate the big O-N-E, dig into a giant pile of gifts and smash some cake on her face. Not only that, but we did her one year portraits too.

Nothing screams birthday to me quite like balloons! Sophia loved these balloons and even had fun letting they go after our session was over. She's a balloon girl just like me :)

I was there, with Sophia, my own daughter and a ton of other family, for an entire week and I feel so lucky to have been able to spend that chunk of time with Sophia at this age. She reminds me so much of my own kiddo at that age - she was content laying in my lap and reading books for at least 8 hours out of the day! LOL Snacks and naps worked their magic to keep her happy and she was so inquisitive about what everyone else was up to. I'm so overjoyed and proud of her... and I'm so lucky and thrilled to be her godmother!

So, without further ado, here she is! Toddler Sophia!

I've been dying to have a boudoir session that I could show - many women choose to keep their boudoir images totally private, and thus, many of my blog readers might not know that I offer these sessions. So finally, here is a mini-sneak peek of one of my boudoir sessions!

There's something different about these session...something special. It's empowering to help assist another woman, mom, friend, sister, any woman really celebrate themselves. Sweet tiny eyelashes, a fabulous easy smile and GORGEOUS coloring....that's how I'd sum up little Abigail in 3 ways if I had to. She was so easy going and still squishy for the most part at a super fun age of ten weeks old.

It's not often I'm asked to photograph and 10 week old...and I'll admit, I was a tad stumped. But I just KNEW I'd love that age. They are so much more interactive than they are at the newborn stage and still just as sweet. So, if you're debating on whether you still want newborn images or even want to capture that little 3 month old occupying that spare room in your house, take a peek at this little sweetie and contact me ASAP!

We love Norman...mainly in the winter months. We have some huge glass blocks in our bathroom that let in the light (that I LOVE so much) but they also let in the cold (which I don't love so much). So, Norman gets turned on and cranked up and very, very quickly makes friends in this house!

Meet the oldest of our hairy trio. She rarely makes an appearance in any of my photography...not because she has a camera fear (like my big, wussy dog!). She has a TODDLER fear :) Hair pulling, eye poking and in-your-face book readings aren't quite Stoli's cup of tea but she is incredibly sweet, easy going and loving.

I bought her as an anniversary gift for my husband years ago...but since she came home, she's been my baby 120%. Almost every night I can count on waking up and finding her asleep by my feet.

She seems to have a "thing" for the space heater in our bathroom - whom we've affectionately named "Norman". If she can tear herself away from him long enough, she could take up hours of love and cuddling in your lap.

Wondering where day 7 is? Yeah...me too! Let's be honest here... day 7 came and went without a single image snapped. I guess you could say I already fell off the wagon of my 90 days of summer project...but it's actually pretty rare that a single day passes without me snapping anything on my camera (or camera phone). It just so happens one fell during this project. Such is life, right?

There's something to be said about the Golden Light (the last hour of sun before sunset)...it's so warm, golden and buttery. It's an instant mood lifter, a feel-good kinda light. I'm not sure I'd ever survive in a place that had a lot of cloudy and rainy days. As much as I think I'd love it, I really truly know I'd miss the daily sun desperately. You can find me out every day, getting my daily dose of Vitamin D!

Summer evenings, happy kiddo, happy husband, happy puppies... Hugs, kisses and "I see you"s completed this evening. Best of all? I captured a ton of family memories and moments just for us. And of course, one to share too.

Day 6 - Albuquerque Lifestyle Portrait Photographer

Day 6 actually brings you multiple photos... of a cherished and very, very loved item in our house. Not only is it essentially a classic but it never goes out of style. My girlie LOVES it to pieces, literally. We're needing to apply a duct tape fix soon or else the cover and the stories will be separated forever.

It seems to be loved in waves... weeks at a time when it's opened over and over each and every day. Every rare once in awhile, it gets a break to sit on the shelf while another book goes through the ringer. But this book gets tossed (or rather pulled) into the cycle more often than any other book.

I'm glad this is my day 6 image...captures a love in my daughter's life right now.

Day 4 - Albuquerque Photographer

We love bringing birds to our yard year round to watch...Sometimes it can be so exhausting. Trying to keep the bird feeder full (which the birds can totally drain in one day), making sure there is fresh nectar for the hummingbirds and making sure the bird bath has water it in on hot summer days. In the winter, we then worry about stocking enough suet for the birds as well.

But over and over it pays off. We watch a HUGE variety of birds come and go (as well as other neat guys like lizards and dragonflies). There's even a few times we get a hawk on our back wall.

All of 3 of us enjoy watching the daily activities of the birds - making nest, eating, bathing, lounging in the shade....as long as we keep that feeder full!

Day 3 - Albuquerque Lifestyle Portrait Photographer

Day 3 gave me perfect time...it was still warm and muggy out, with a gorgeous blazing sunset that just made me yearn to be outside. Exploring my yard and neighborhood, at a different level than walking my toddler girl, is just such a fun and different experience every single time I get out. From sunrise to sunset, Monday to Wednesday (or sometimes Sunday), things change so much... there's always something new to see, something new to discover.

Every year I vow to capture these flowers in my planter in all their glory...before the blooms either lose their petals or the weight of them finally brings the long skinny stem down to the ground. I caught them this year but know I've already missed the window with my pansies - the 100+ degree weather the past few days finished them off for the season. Pansies are a staple though, so I know I can catch them next year.

You might have seen my recent post on Facebook, breaking the news I'd be starting a personal project soon. Yesterday, on June 5th, I began... Shooting for me, 90 days in a row this summer. You'll learn (and see) more about me while I learn more about myself. I'm sure some days will be simple images, just a moment from our day, and sometimes others will be more exciting...at least I hope! All I can guarantee is a large variety of images, feelings and inspiration :)

This is a staple to our summer. Hot sunny days, a swimming pool in the shade and popsicles. We could sit outside and play all.day.long and love every minute. We're an outside kinda family!

This post is bittersweet for me... These kiddos are fabulously fun, cute as all get out and their mama is a great, dear friend of mine. And? They moved away!

I'll miss watching them grow... getting giggles, welcomes, and requests to play. I'll miss playdates, walks and zoo trips on top of so, so much more. Their mama was a huge support to me when I was a new mama myself - with my own screaming bundle of joy. She was a sounding board for my stresses and a great source of advice as well.

Thank you for letting us be a part of your guys' life in Albuquerque. We'll miss you and can't wait until we can plan a big fancy vacation together :)

Devin & Lance - Albuquerque, NM Engagement Photographer

Devin and Lance were all of the above and more. We hit it off immediately and had a blast during their session... ironically we never even got around to wedding talk! That's one of my favorite conversations with my engagement couples - learning all the details of their big day that's just around the corner. Instead, we covered the topic of French Bulldogs for 2 hours!

Comparing their Jasper and my Merlot, bonding occurred and I know this will not be the last I see these guys...and next time! It's all wedding talk - hope you're up for it Lance! :)

Anna & Josh - Albuquerque, NM Engagement Photographer

I love doing engagement sessions - I can daydream about planning another wedding: what dress I would pick, which flowers I would carry and what rings I would hope to get from my handsome fiance down on one knee. But looking back, I really wouldn't change anything. Things were perfect - even down to me having the wrong veil from the store, driving myself to get my makeup done and having a friend do my hair.

Knowing that those decisions (and plenty of other past ones) have led me to where I am now makes hindsight a little less 20/20. :)

So last Saturday I met another bride-to-be and her handsome fiance as well. As I mentioned, engagement sessions take me back to a past time in my life and I LOVE seeing these couples very in the moment, making decisions for a day that they will always remember. It makes me heart happy knowing there will be another couple out there, in years, reminiscing about their past when right here and now, it's their future together. I love hearing stories about what they are planning, what colors they've chosen... and knowing I am a part of those decisions too. I hope they know how special they are to me in that aspect as well. We've all got a future we're working towards, right?

Josh and Anna - Have a glorious, gorgeous and joyful wedding where your personalities shine and your love is a centerpiece. I cannot wait to see you guys again and capture another piece of your "now"!

Happy Mother's Day! - Albuquerque, New Mexico Photographer

Some say Mother's Day is a Hallmark holiday...and us Mama's cannot disagree more! We TOTALLY deserve a day with no laundry, no cooking, no cleaning and 24 straight hours of hugs, kisses and love from our kiddos. Right?!?

Becoming a Mom is like being immediately initiated into a secret society. No initiations, no secret pacts, no hidden handshakes, songs or signs - you're automatically accepted. There's always someone around to give you advice (whether you want it or not is a totally different story!), someone who has an ear to lend for whatever you need to chat about and someone who can tell you their kid also dumped an entire mug of coffee onto their carpet too... as a mama, you're never alone in this wild world of raising kiddos.

I'm so very lucky to be surrounded by many wonderful mamas, mamas-to-be and so many other amazing women in my life that play monumental roles in my life as a parent. I'm thankful for each and everyone of these ladies.

So today, on Mother's Day, give into your vice! Read a book in the bath, eat dessert before dinner and spend the day laying on the cough with your kiddos! :)

Kaysha & Mike - Albuquerque, NM Custom Couples Photography

Kaysha and I go back...waaay back to high school. We were both DECA nerds.... battling it out for trips around the U.S. and hoping not to get Dottie's Dots as punishment for not paying attention. We clicked easily but lost touch for a few years.

Flash forward to now - After hunting fer her on Facebook, she finally popped up. Married, with a different last name but still here in town. We got together for lunch and clicked again.

Don't you just LOVE friendships like that? Where times feels like it almost stood still...yet so much has changed but not enough to really matter? You can almost pick up where you left off and keep on going... and it feels fabulous!

I'm so glad and honored she wanted me to capture the connection between her, Mike and their pups (I LOVE when clients want to get their pets involved!!). We met, chatted, played and made some magic.

Sweet Mama & Son - Albuquerque, NM Custom Family Photographer

I'm not entirely sure how it happens...and it always happens. I have THE SWEETEST families that come to me to capture their memories. These guys were no exception whatsoever!

Meet Brandy and Dylan... fun, silly, sweet, loving and so much more rolled into one. Dylan was so open and interactive with me. Seeing the tender connection between him and his mama gave me hope for the future - that my child will still love me in public! :)

One of my favorite things when photographing children is really getting to know them and their dreams. Nobody dreams quite like a child dreams...unabandoned, unleashed, free and with so much wonder. Dylan had fabulous dreams - no limits, just all dreams. Pair that with his grin and gorgeously stunning eyes and I think his mama might have a heart breaker on her hands in just a few short years!

Meet Wyatt & Mason - Albuquerque, NM Twin Photographer

Want a good dose of adorable baby-ness? What about a double dose?!? Well, let me introduce you to my very first set of twins - Wyatt & Mason!

These two little dudes were ADORABLE! Not only are they the newest members of one of the coolest and fun-loving couples I know, but they also have some most awesome aunts and uncles you'd recognize from here and here. These little guys were just about a month old when I met them and were both right around 7 pounds a piece...14 total pounds of squishy, whimpery, pouty love! Nothing can quite compare to the noises and smells of a newborn... even though Wyatt did give me a shower that required a t-shirt change!

Mama and Dada are amazing parents already...I cannot wait to watch these little boys grow and. Thanks to you guys for making me feel like another member of your family and for giving me this amazing opportunity to capture your newest journey! Congrats!!

Spring - Albuquerque, New Mexico Natural Light Photography

As many of you already know, I'm SO not a cold weather person. By the time Christmas came and passed, I was so over the cold, snow and just plain blahs of winter. Today, the weather was amazingly gorgeous and I took full advantage to explore my yard, and snag some more macro shots.

There's a big variety here...and I love them all. I found some rich, deep purples and some bright, new greens. Add in a cute little critter that surprisingly showed up in my viewfinder and I was a pretty happy camper editing these as well.

Spring is coming in...and it's oh so fabulous!!

Maybe I'm a little but nuts but I LOVE Daylight Savings Time... It gets me that extra step closer to Spring and then Summer. Warm breezes, afternoons spent in the backyard, BBQs with friends and family, FLIP FLOPS and books read laying in the sun are on their way! I can just taste it.

Today, I even got a glimpse of it and it makes me that much more excited! You've gotta love these gorgeous, vibrant blue New Mexico skies!

I know it's been awhile since you saw many posts on this blog...and I've got good reasons to have been so absent. Here's just ONE reason. You'll have to wait for the others!

Let me introduce you to a little something new for Albuquerque moms and kiddos: Little Monkey's & Oh Sweet Baby Boutique! It's a FABULOUS baby boutique inside of a children's resale shop!

I'm a huge fan of local and love to support any little local shops and restaurants I can. The owner of Little Monkey's & Oh Sweet Baby Boutique, Jessica, has the best lookin' store with the most rockin' stock - hands down. She is super sweet and helpful too.

Being a mom myself, I love shopping for my daughter's clothes in consignment stores. Not only can you find some seriously amazing bargains but the variety of clothing styles really cannot be compared. I love being able to walk in, pick out cute pieces and know that the next time I come back, whether it be days or weeks apart, their entire stock will be different, fresh and not the same stuff you'll find in all the regular stores.

Recently Jessica decided to add a boutique section to her store... and she hand makes the majority of these custom items. Bows, headbands, tutus, pettiskirts, hats and more... in a great variety of colors and sizes. Seriously TO DIE FOR. Take a peek below!

I love photographing people so much...catching a glimpse into their emotions, capturing glances with deep meaning behind them, seeing love reflected in people's eyes...It's really what keeps me inspired in my work. Being able to build a relationship with a couple, sometimes starting earlier than a maternity session, and continuing to grow that relationship through multiple sessions is really just the sweetest icing on the cake. I cannot wait to see where these relationships go after a few more years of being in business and having many more opportunities to watch these families start or grow, kiddos double over time and having my clients open up even more for my camera.

This couple was so comfortable in front of my camera both times (you can catch their earlier maternity session here) and I LOVED how many intimate moments I caught without them even noticing. Michael regularly gazes at his wife with such adoration...and their interactions with each other are so easy and fluid it's like watching a dance.

Now...add in their little star : Ezra. He was squishy, sweet, sleepy and just heaven for me to lay my eyes on. He was so content even when he was hungry and I kept promising only 2 more shots.

Congrats to the new Mom & Dad! Welcome to the crazy, hairy wonderfully-ridiculous world of parenthood :)

I went to these guys' house to capture this extremely special time in their lives....and I swear, I could have just moved in permanently.

They have 2 of the CUTESET little guys ever, and I don't mean the twins she's toting in her belly :) Golden Retrievers can melt my heart immediately. They don't even need to give me kisses, nose bumps or anything. They have the sweetest eyes you can sink into and their love and affection can't be compared either. We only captured on little guy in our session... The other was busy playing fetch with me :)

I was comfortable right off the bat when Mom opened up the door... and I swear, we might have been separated at birth! Soon enough...these little twins (TWINS!!!) will make their debut and you'll see them here as well.

Thanks a ton you two for being so beyond fabulous... we'll see each other soon!

I'm always learning...whether it's photography related or not. My most recent learning lesson? Shooting for me. I don't always have to or need to worry about the technical aspects of each shot taken... especially if it's for me.

I try to do this in my family/children/maternity/newborn/couple sessions too. I've gotta FEEL an image and let it speak to me and my emotions. I try to think about what my clients will feel or think upon seeing their memories captured with a click.

This family was beyond fun. They were sweet, funny, easy going and so so genuine. They were up for anything and you could just feel the love between the 4 of them.

This is one of my first shoots with teenagers and man, it was FUN! Way more fun than I had anticipated (which was a lot by the way...). These kiddos were perfect too. Gorgeous, sweet, well-mannered and actually took away some of my own fear of someday having my own teenager or two. I'll be first in line when Mom & Dad decide to host a parenting class and give away their secrets. :)

We took their '55 Chevy truck out and had some football fun. Had I known it was a jersey themed day, I would have shown up in all my Minnesota Viking glory!

We've had an AMAZING fall here recently. Not only has it been gorgeous with the yellow and orange leaves everywhere but the weather has been fabulous in the afternoons. We've spent many of those afternoons in the backyard...gathering leaves, playing with chalk, running around and soaking up the warm sunshine.

And of course, not all good things can last. Our indian summer came to a screeching halt yesterday with rain and some snow. At least now I can be excited for toasting in front of a fireplace, wrapping up in snuggly scarves and fluffy mittens. Just over a week until Thanksgiving...oh sweet pumkpin pie, stuffing and eating myself into oblivion!

Gosh...I LOVE fall. It's my favorite season, hands down. You can't beat the smells of roasting green chile, baking turkey or pumpkin pie... the warmth of a fireplace...playing in the leaves until you're totally out of breath or the excitement and anticipation of the upcoming holidays. Really, Fall has something for everyone.

We recently headed out to spend some time at one of the local pumpkin patches and corn mazes. We had a wonderful time, loads of fun and we all left tired from all the excitement.

This year I made, yes MADE my kiddo's Halloween costume...and it was so beyond worth it. It took me a month, working on it in small spurts but it turned out amazing.

The best part? She actually LIKED wearing it. Regardless of the fact she's entirely too shy to trick-or-treat much less look strangers in the eye, a Halloween costume is a MUST in my house. It's the major holiday for me.

I can't wait to meet their little babe...and I'm keeping hope for Beth that she'll make her entrance in 2009. However....I hear the first baby born in the new year comes home with extra goodies from the hospital!! Can't complain if you come home with a baby AND extra loot, right?

Kristi and I go back. She was a saving grace to me once upon a time ago when we moved up to little Farmington, New Mexico. We met at work, became friends and always had a blast. She has a hysterical sense of humor and is extremely loving and kind all at the same time...a heart of gold.

Over the years, Kristi has been down to ABQ a few times and we always try to get together. Sometimes it happens and other times it doesn't quite work out. This time, it worked out.

My friend Jenn, her husband Mike, mom, dad and not-so-baby-anymore Tyler were such a blast to hang with. You know when you had those friends growing up that had such cool parents and you were always hanging out at that friends' house? That was Jenn's. You might remember this little dude... back from his newborn/blob days. He has got to be one of THE CUTEST little guys I have ever seen. He is beyond a flirt with me... smiling, screeching and giggling the entire time we were together. This isn't anything new to me though...we've frequently gotten our flirt on and enjoyed each others presence before. He's almost a year old...and I've already got my eye on him for my future son-in-law.

After a recent visit to see family in Colorado Springs and spending time on my Aunt and Uncles porch watching the baby birds, we were motivated to get a birdhouse. We got home and headed to esty.com and ordered a custom New Mexico license plate birdhouse to be made. It arrived and my husband wanted to know where I'd recommend he hang "his" birdhouse. Do you think I helped?!?

Little did I know I now need my OWN birdhouse...but I'm such a touch and buy kinda person. I was a gorgeous, brightly colored house that will host more birds than my husbands house will ever host!

The hubs and I just celebrated our 5 year wedding anniversary... and in honor of that we took part in a very rare treat. He surprised me with an evening MINUS the baby out at the Hyatt Tamaya resort. We've stayed here a few times over the years but we've never had this view. We LOVED it. The warm sun streaming in, the lush green rolling hills and some wildlife scattered in too. It was heaven!

Dad was more than happy to lug the kiddo all around town on his shoulders... and man, I know from experience kiddos are NOT light packages! This family was so natural with each other in front of the camera - I'm thrilled I could be the one to capture it too. They haven't had family pictures in years! Mom and Dad just celebrated their 4 year anniversary so in my mind, they were waaaay overdue!

I LOVE doing engagement shoots...and this one was no exception!

These guys have an amazing connection... so in tune with each other constantly and amazingly sweet with each other too. In November they'll become husband and wife in India. I was enthralled with how the wedding customs differ and can't wait to hear more about the big day!

Puja revealed Rajat can be a little shy. Think I agree? NOPE! He was so warm and funny! And Puja...wow, isn't she a total knock out?!? I was thrilled to see her in her gorgeous traditional dress! They were so warm, open and sweet with me too.

I had the pleasure of hanging with this little sweetie (and her awesome parents) for an entire weekend in Corpus Christi, TX. Not only did I get my newborn fix, a taste of baby fever and flooded with memories of my own tiny one, but I also got to capture some very sweet, fabulous newborn pictures.

Up until this point, I've always had very alert newborns during their shoots. Kennedy was mostly sleepy and let me squish and squeeze her around a tad bit more. She's such a good baby... not giving her gorgeous mama TOO hard of a time. Yet. There's always the teenage years for that! However, she has gotten her "beach babe" status quite early...

Congrats to Bekah and John...Cherish these tiny, timeless moments. They go by too fast! Kisses to that sweet, sweet babe for me and ENJOY your sneak peek!

I spent this past weekend in Corpus Christi, Texas. Really, this was my first adult experience in Texas. I doubt visiting a friend in 8th grade and accompanying her church group to a water park quite counts the same. Not that I minded wearing an oversize t-shirt over my bathing suit, but come on. It's just DIFFERENT. I had big plans of experiencing Texas beer during my layover in Dallas just as a precautionary prep for the twinprop plane ride. My luck pulled through and all bars were closed at the hour I went through... thankfully I survived that flight :0)

During our shoot, we hit the beach. Yep....I let the cat outta the bag. I HAD to. Why? See below...

I've known these guys for years now...and every single time I'm around any one of them it's guaranteed to be a good time. I was told it's been YEARS since they had family pictures taken...about time, right?!?

Last time I was in their backyard was last year and my girl Adrienne was getting married the very next day. Tom (Geez..... can I even put that instead of Coach K?!?) made a fabulous father-of-the-bride speech and what I remember the most out of it was how much he loved his wife and this fabulous family they'd built over the years. They have truly raised some amazing kiddos! Adrienne picked me (alright fine. not ME...just my work!) as the Father's Day/Birthday gift for her dad... I'm so very thankful to be here to capture these timeless memories for them!

These guys just celebrated their 1 year wedding anniversary... and I had the pleasure of capturing them during this time in their lives. You can FEEL the love oozing from them...and it was fabulous! They were so funny, bubbly and outgoing. Matt was a tad camera shy... so on their next shoot, I think I'll just have to take charge and bring a few beers for him! Shhhhh...

Hayley is a teacher and Matt is a fireman. I have about a million friends who are/were teachers and a family full of firefighters... perfect match for us, right? We had a total blast wandering around to some neat spots and then finally settled down at the Botanical Gardens. We were worried about getting soaked by some monsoon rains but the weather just cooled the hot summer day down for us and cleared out the gardens too!

Thanks so much guys...and I just know there are many, many blissful years of marriage in store for you two. Now...let's get crackin' so we can do a maternity shoot! ;0)

Look who is building their FIRST HOME!!

I know, I know...I've kept you in anxious anticipation to see more of my bestie. But...it was for a good reason. I've been busy busy busy editing these beauties! I'm finally back and able to fill you in on all the juicy details!

Let me explain Val and I have been friends for years. We actually only see each other about once a year. Don't let that fool you though. Rest assured we can get into PLENTY of trouble just once a year. I kid really...we don't get into any exciting trouble. No cops, tickets or breaking laws are involved in our shenanigans these days (they were in our past though!).

This year, Val was in town for a super short time and managed to squeeze me (and a shoot) all into one day. With the hubs watching the kiddo we were free to gallivant all over town, finding neat new spots and taking some awesome portraits of Val. Never know when you'll need a head shot, right? Besides...how often do I get the opportunity to shoot a model? No joke!

This little beauty was born back on May 18th... 3 weeks early. She was so, so SO alert... she didn't want to miss any of the action between me, my camera and her. I loved it! As long as she was warm and could stretch out she was so content just to lounge out and stare at the bright windows.

Her daddy is already a goner. G.O.N.E.R. She has him totally and utterly wrapped around her teensy little fingers...and she has the most petite hands I have ever seen. Her mommy, Betsy, and I knew each other in high school. We used to rock out in marching band (true story!) so it was so super cool to meet her daughter and capture this special moment in their lives.

They were super laid back...let me love on their girlie and get my baby fix all while I managed to squeeze in these beautiful shots for them to cherish. Isn't she a stunner?!? Totally gorgeous...

These guys told their families they were pregnant with a picture similar to this... we replicated it (with my own spin) as a keepsake for them.

I'm a total sucker for dogs...I've got 2 of my own and LOVE meeting friends' and clients' dogs. What's not to love, right?

Yep... this one does that for me. We took a trip with my brother and his girl down to Carlsbad, New Mexico to hike the Caverns. As my hubby got the baby ready in her hiking pack I caught this beauty and it just makes me giggle!

I love every season...I really, really do. By the time I've had my fill of one, another comes rolling in just in time. My years always seem to cycle like that.

When summer finally comes in full force our desert willow blooms gorgeous purple flowers. They smell so intoxicatingly sweet and fabulous that I can't complain TOO much when my car (which I'll park under the tree for shade) is covered in sticky sap.

Right now I'm in LOVE with summer. I love feeling the sun on my skin, watching the hot summer sun set late in the evening and causing the sky to catch fire, the smells of neighbors BBQing, hummingbirds and butterflies coming around, plants greening up and blooming...and gathering my family close outside for some water time fun.

What can beat memories like that, right?

These guys are uber special to me. All 3 of 'em actually. This is my cousin Jason and his wife Emily (I call them both my cousin just for technical issues...but if my cousins were having a bay together there MIGHT be an issue, so rest assured!) Now...toss little Sophia Jayne into the mix and I feel like I'm getting a niece. I can hardly wait for her arrival... I might be knocking down the hospital room wall!

Sophia Jayne will be my Grammie's 5th great granddaughter. Yep...it's a girl kinda family and we're all loving it. Who doesn't? Teensy tiny pink clothes, beaded jewel tone shoes, loads of sweet, sweet stuffed animals.... I could go on and on (and I won't, because you all already know how stinkin' cute baby girl stuff is!).

Jason and Em will be miraculous parents. Beyond explanation. Can't you just FEEL the love?! Em is beyond glowing, Jay is so proud and already wrapped around Sophia's finger...and Wrigley? Wrigley is a sucka for this little bundle of love too!

It was beyond special for them to ask me to take these portraits. I'm so glad to be able to capture this time in their lives... I Love you 3!

Almost 5 years ago I got married to my hubby. Jennie was one of my beloved bridesmaids... now she's getting hitched! It's about darn time too. I'm tired of being one of the only married gals! (At her bachelorette party...I'm hoping her girls will make her wear a whip cream bikini like my girls did to me. Maybe they can surprise her with it....even better!)

The only thing I can ever ask if for my friends to be happy. Well...you can look at Jennie and tell she is blissfully, totally, utterly happy with her man, Gio. Which in turn makes my heart happy. I love watching couples that are comfortable with each other. You can see it in the way they talk, smile and touch each other.

I can only imagine that their wedding this coming July will be such an amazing celebration of love, marriage and life. It'll be THE PLACE to be on that wonderful Friday evening. Think they'll let me tag along on the honeymoon?!? I've never been on a tropical vacay in Mexico. :0)

Don't scroll down just yet. Just wait...you'll swoon I promise!

This little dude and his family are ALL gorgeous. I met Tanya and David at a Superbowl party and honestly, it was my husbands chocolate chip cookies that formed a connection (he makes a mean cookie, folks!).

I was beyond thrilled when Tanya contacted me to come peek at Tyler, play with him, drool over his tiny tiny hands and feet...and eat him up. OK...really, I was there cracking poop jokes and snapping pics but this little guy is so stinkin cute! He was so alert, calm and such a good boy.

His room was rockin' too... Mom said Dad did all the professional looking painting of orange and brown stripes but the monkey theme really caught my eyes. Totally fab... and sophisticated too. This little guy will have a blast monkey-ing around in there! :0)

Now...if you hear some recent news about me very, very possibly marathon training... thank Tanya. It will all be her fault!

I'm wondering if I'm nuts... but really, I just think this is L.O.V.E.!

Yep...cloth diapers folks. Don't those colors just look delicious?!? I'm hooked. Only 2 days in and I can tell you, I'm totally hooked.

I want patterns. Pigs, monkeys, polka dots and especially paisley among many, many others. Is THIS what I needed to get over my laundry-phobia issues?

Nah...I still have 2 overflowing baskets of clean stuff in my room just begging to be put away. Too bad I'm busy playing with diapers all day, huh? :0)

These guys are so cool. Truly, truly cool and such a riot to hang out with. And I'm not just talking about on this shoot.

Jennie and Lance can throw a KILLER dinner party. Really. I've been witness to it and I'll admit, my belly is still aching for some of those appetizers... especially the jam, brie and pastry thingie. Oh yeah..... *drooling* Shall I mention what else was there? Sangria. Frozen Sangria. Cucumber dill dudes. Meatballs. Wine and more wine. Queso and.... shall I stop now? I have no idea how I'll have these guys over for something that can even come close to that shindig! OK....back on topic...

As usual, we had a great time when we got together. They were up for totally anything and we wandered and found some absolute perfect spots to capture these guys' love. It so neat to watch a couple like this...you almost feel like a fly on the wall... seeing their connection to each other. Jennie has got the most infectious laugh and Lance has some hysterical facial expressions. These pictures capture their love, sweetness and fun-for-all personalities...exactly what their marriage will be like. I'm sure they'll celebrate their 50th anniversary doing crazy silly things only they understand the meanings behind (Popsicles) and loving every single second together.

I cannot imagine how uber cool, sweet and down-to-earth their wedding will be. It'll be the event of the year back in Ohio....and I can only wish these guys the absolute best!

I seriously COULD NOT pick my favorites from this shoot. Normally I can pick them in an instant...hands down, no doubt about it. Not this time. I love each and every one for different reasons. Enjoy your sneak peek guys...and Jennie: we'll rock the wedding dress stores on Saturday. They won't know what hit 'em :0)

Lyndsey and Nate - Albuquerque, NM and Tulsa, OK Maternity Photographer

Remember I said I had a lot in the works?!? Well...here's just the beginning.

I trucked it (sans baby) over to Oklahoma a few weekends back. My agenda: have an awesome girlie weekend with Lindsay and Lyndsey (yes. 2 of them. I'm just thankful to have another "L" name to try and fit in!). While I was there, we snagged some time to do Lyndsey and Nate's maternity pictures.

Lyndsey holds such a soft spot in my heart...she has for years. We met in high school and have stayed in touch ever since.
I try so hard to never cry... I'm NOT a pretty crier. at. all. I get red and splotchy... and look diseased. Keep that in mind here:
I cried at their wedding when I saw Lyndz in her wedding dress for the first time. Sure, I was pregnant at that time, but not THAT sappy of a pregnant gal. She looked radiant in her dress.
I cried after her shower... seeing how happy she is being pregnant and seeing the world of friends around us blossom with babies.
I can only imagine I'll cry like a baby when I meet little Claire and see Lyndsey holding her DAUGHTER! eek!

They welcomed me with open arms (in exchange for a bag of green chile from back home) into their home for a weekend and I loved every second of it. I wish we lived closer...but the times we can spend together are so cherished because of the distance.

This couple is so devoted to each other and their lives together - it's so magical to watch. I really have no idea what word would best describe them to you. Clarie Lynn...what a lucky gal she already is and she's not due to see it all until the end of March. These pictures show you the warmth and love in this family.

I love you all...and can't wait to see you in the fall!

These are 2 of my 4 troubles...

They prefer artificial christmas trees and toys that aren't theirs
One snores and farts constantly
The other is afraid of cell phones and the crockpot

They both love us all unconditionally...
and we're not sure what we would do without them either.

I can't imagine anyone would EVER get any entertainment out of some of the names we call these dogs. If they only knew...I might feel bad!
